Thanks RMFR!

It was with great excitement we set off today for Primary Children's Hospital.  We were specifically headed to the Ronald McDonald Family Room to prepare dinner for whomever needed a free home cooked meal and a chance to get out of a cramped hospital room, and maybe a chance to visit with other parents.

 Dinner is always served from 6-7 p.m. (breakfasts at 10 a.m. and lunch at 1 p.m.), so we arrived a few hours early to prepare.

 All food not commercially prepared has to be cooked there in their kitchen.

 The meal calendar hangs in the the kitchen of the Ronald McDonald Family Room.  As a hospital guest, it was always nice to see all the squares filled in.  I think summers are a little harder to get volunteers.

 Many hands make light work. . .

 Thanks James and Lisa for donating the cookie bars for dessert!  They were a hit.

It was good to have the whole family together again.

 Guidelines for dinner tell you to expect between 35 and 70 guests.  It's hard to know from night to night how many people will come to eat.  When we started serving, we thought we would be closer to the 35 people figure.  But by 7:40 we estimated we fed about 100 guests.  We had prepared a taco salad/ nacho bar so it was easy to stretch it out and feed a lot more people.  The kids said they enjoyed being on the other side of the counter for a change!

 What a great feeling to clean up and head home after having such a fulfilling Sunday evening.  We owe a big thanks to Rachel for getting online and signing us up.  We weren't quite sure what kind of feelings this would bring up -- (being back at the hospital again) -- but everyone said it wasn't as bad as what we thought it would be.  It was just fun to serve for a change.
