Enduring to the End

I think we have known for quite a while that Brendan has an incredible understanding of life and a depth of knowledge that is not typical for an 11 to 12 year old.  As he has talked to friends, family and church leaders, he has made some pretty profound comments.  Fortunately, Shaun remembered to write some of them down.

 "My body has been torn apart by this cancer but my soul has been strengthened."

 "The best things that have happened in my life have all happened since I got cancer."

 "I've never felt pain like this but I've never felt joy like this.  Without the suffering I wouldn't have felt the joy."
 "It took this cancer to help me to understand how much I am loved."

 Today Brendan enjoyed opening a "Box of Sunshine."

Today Brendan received his First Class Boy Scout Badge.

 Today the kids spent time together laughing. . .

 . . .and playing . . .

 . . . and spending time with Brendan. . .

 . . .and spending time without Brendan.  I've tried to help them understand (as I was taught by the social workers at the hospital) that it's ok to be sad, and it's ok to not to be sad all the time.

Today we had a visit from some new-made friends.  Team Daeman came by to thank Brendan for his strength and courage and for his example to all who know him.  We were so impressed with their kindness and eloquence in expressing to Brendan what he means to them and to everyone who hear his story.

 When this visit was planned a week and a half ago, they were hoping to give Brendan a ride, but he just wasn't up to it anymore.

 They were only here about 30 minutes, but they left us feeling uplifted and touched by their  kindness and generosity. 
 The kids were all given T-shirts.

 Brendan was asked to sign the jersey that would be worn when they try to set a speed record.  “Charlie” will be kept permanently on his helmet and on the machine when he races. 

 On Friday, July 22nd, from 2-6 pm at Renegade Sports (1903 South 800 West, Logan -- between Nibley and Logan) they will be having free go-karts and a bounce house, and free food in honor of Brendan.  Those of us who can go hope to be there to celebrate in honor of Brendan.
