Today felt like a lot of work for little return. For starters, the snow made a mess of everything.
Brendan enjoyed a nice, quiet morning reading Christmas books under the Christmas tree while Sheldon and Angie moved our car into the garage to clean it off before we had to leave for radiation. We got a call from Radiation Oncology seeing if we were going to make it in today. Most of their patients had either cancelled or had taken 2 hours or more getting there. We told them we would get on our way. This was Brendan's view during the drive. Our drive there wasn't too bad -- just slushy and slow. Not like the morning commute.
When we got to the Huntsman Cancer Institute they told us that they were hours behind schedule (the morning appointments had finally made it) so we would be waiting another two to three hours. So we headed to Primary Children's Hospital to get Brendan's blood draws.
Brendan did a great job today getting his port accessed. They just had to push it in, draw blood, then pull it back out. His counts are still normal today. They should be dropping in another week or so.
Back at radiation, Brendan slept while we waited the hour + to get in. When we finally did, Brendan was feeling sick and they had to set him up two or three times. When they finally started, I was called back to the vault because Brendan was feeling sick again. We made two more attempts before Brendan was in tears and felt he couldn't do it today. So we left.
Brendan was their last patient today and everyone was anxious to get headed home early before more snow fell. (Most of the people I talked to today spent 2-5 hours getting to work this morning and didn't want to spend that much time getting home.) By the time Brendan got to the car he was feeling like he could do it, but it was after 4 pm and I was anxious to get out of Salt Lake as well.
All day Brendan hasn't been able to keep anything in his stomach. When we got back to Farmington it was even worse. He couldn't even keep his anti-nausea medicines down. I was getting a little concerned, so we tucked him into bed early. . .
. . .rubbed his feet, and read him a story. As he quieted down, I was able to turn on his food pump. So far he's been able to keep some food down and his medicines.
I'll be up again tonight giving him anti-nausea medicine every few hours and making sure he stays hydrated. We'll try again tomorrow with radiation. And hopefully the snow will abate and we'll feel like we can get more traction tomorrow with food and treatment.

So glad that you went to SLC on Sunday, as hard as it was at the time. Nice that you made it safely. Better luck tomorrow our warrior hero! Love you.
ReplyDeleteIs that a photo of Charlie with Charlie that I see? And a Christmas scene too? Nicely done. Sweet Dreams Charlies!
