Being back in the hospital unexpectedly is always draining. Especially when the doctor at Primary's says, "Now, why are you here?" So I'm thinking, "Great! Just send us home."
But they didn't.
And maybe it was a good thing they didn't.
Brendan woke up at 4 a.m. in a lot of pain. His shoulder has been aching when he sleeps on it. But the pain was also bad in his shin. I rubbed his leg last night and he cried out in pain. He's complained about a leg ache for days now, but the pain has sharpened and is located right in the front- on his shin bone. Brendan's fever kept him feeling pretty miserable. But then it disappeared overnight, only to return just as we were getting ready to be discharged today. Ahhhh. . . But they let us go anyway (since every test was negative, his sodium is still up, and they assume the fevers are being caused by the disease progression in his bone.)Today, everything was focused on how to get (and keep) Brendan on his Wish Trip -- and out of a Florida hospital. I was drilled by two different doctors, a resident, and the pharmacist on the pain management plan. We covered every probable problem they could think of and made a plan. He was given a pre-emptive antibiotic. Then given another round of Vancomycin to prevent the C. diff that might happen if they put him back on antibiotics. We were given a giant size bottle of sodium and his sodium dose was upped so we don't have any issues with dropping sodium. We made sure he had his weekly Septra doses (to prevent the deadly pneumonia that these kids are susceptible to.) Oh, and they scheduled him for a radiation dose to his shoulder and shin tomorrow at Huntsman to take care of the pain developing in those spots. Wow! I am so grateful for their thought and effort at making sure he has the trip of a lifetime!
While waiting for the plans, the prescriptions, and the discharge papers, Brendan received this wonderful message from the BYU performing group "Vocal Point." A big thanks to Brook Call for making it happen.
Brendan was really touched by their kind message and thoughts.
Finally, after a dose of Tylenol to bring his fever down, we left the hospital. Even though we have to be back for radiation tomorrow, we decided to come on home.
It's always good to be home!

Sending love❤️
