Big Smiles!

These pictures come courtesy of the Camp Hobe photographer!  (I was really hoping to get a glimpse of Brendan and Landon on the Facebook page today! And here is Brendan! These pictures would have been taken on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully Monday, or he slept in his clothes and didn't change :) Well, I didn't see Landon in any pictures, (he's probably spending as much time in the pool as possible), but here are two pictures of Brendan -- both with big smiles!

I heard from the nurse and later from the director (via email) that Brendan had participated in a skit last night with his cabin-mates.  Apparently he had a lot of fun.  They both were excited to tell me about it.  I'm so glad he is having fun and joining in with the others.


But where was Brendan today?  At Primary Children's Hospital getting a red blood cell transfusion, a platelet transfusion, and a dose of hydrocortisone.  (The hydrocortisone helps with any swelling he is having caused by the tumor and helps the bone pain.)  Brendan caught a ride from Camp Hobe to PCH with the doctor and the oncology clinic nurse.  They left early so they could be to the clinic at the hospital just as it opened.  They wanted to slide Brendan right in so he could be done by early afternoon.  I received a call just after 7:30 a.m. telling me they were at the hospital and putting the cream on Brendan's chest so he could get his port accessed.  They would have to do a CBC (complete blood count) and type and match his blood before they could give him a transfusion.  When the CBC came back, his counts were a little low, but not too bad.  But they knew he would feel better with some blood and have more energy and color.

When I talked to the nurse, she told me Brendan was a little teary this morning when he got up (which is not unusual for Brendan first thing in the morning), but they just rolled him out of bed and into his wheelchair.  He slept most of the way to Primary's and slept most of the hours he was getting his transfusions.  When they got back to camp (sometime after 3 p.m.), he asked for and ate two taco shells with cheese.  That's what he wanted!

We haven't heard any more from the doctors or nurses tonight, so we are assuming all is well.  We are so grateful Brendan could get the blood products he needed.  It really was kind of weird to know Brendan was a the hospital and we were not there with him.  But it was nice to not have to make a trip to SLC.
