Brendan made it! He made it all week at camp. Today was a final program for the parents as they wrapped up their week at camp. Brendan and Landon both loved it.
Brendan really appreciated his camp counselor who helped him get his wheelchair everywhere. Apparently, they did lots of off-roading and wheelies.
Brendan had to say "good-bye" to all of his new friends.
Especially Dr. Doug and Dr. Jenny who took such good care of him. It looks like the blood on Wednesday really helped Brendan's energy levels on Thursday and Friday. They all said he was really perky.
Lots of the counselors told me Brendan really enjoyed the Dance Party last night (Thursday). He danced, he sang -- I think he's been holding out on us.
Landon enjoyed the ropes course, the SCUBA introductory dive, and all the pranks going back and forth between cabins. He spent as much time in the pool as possible, and loved the zip line. Brendan loved the zip line and was sad he could only go on it twice this week. He didn't swim (too hard to get in and out of his swimsuit he said) but loved the hypnotist, and the science experiment program, and shooting off the rockets. It was a busy week!
On the drive home, Brendan's back began to really hurt. The pain became really intense and he struggled to maintain his composure. Traffic was backed up so it took a long time to get home, which made him all the more miserable.
At home Brendan could finally rest. We had saved all of his mail and presents from friends traveling.
What a week! I can't believe Brendan stayed all week at camp and enjoyed it! He said he was never homesick (except when he was at the hospital getting his blood transfusion), but felt much better when he got back to camp. Of course, getting topped off with blood helps everything feel better . . .
I am so grateful to the amazing staff, doctors, and counselors at Camp Hobe. What an amazing program -- helping kids with cancer enjoy a camp experience. And what amazing volunteers that make it all happen.
