Coming home and adjusting back to normal life has taken some getting used to. The whole goal pre-Wish Trip was to get him on his Wish Trip. So now what?
It's been nice to look forward to Brendan's birthday celebration tomorrow (Saturday 6-8:30 p.m. at the Paradise Town Square). We hope to see everyone there! (And Brendan hopes he's up to visiting with everyone who can come.)
It took some coaxing to get Brendan off of his mattress today. Maddy coaxed him outside early in the day, then Rachel talked him into going looking for our cat in the afternoon. Having him spend so much time lying around is hard to watch. He is so tired most of the time and doesn't really want to do anything. So it was wonderful to see him get out for a wheelchair ride down to Dawna's and back. He even walked part of the way.
Brendan has some new sore spots cropping up. His rib, his left shoulder, and his right leg have spots that are beginning to hurt. So far, the pain is under control. We are beginning to feel bumps on the bones in his head, and even on his rib. Brendan is starting to fever regularly -- and we have a plan in place where we don't end up in the Emergency Room each and every time. The doctors feel that the fevers and the bone pain are just a natural progression of the disease.
Scans were set up for next week-- the MIBG on Tuesday (injection) and Wednesday (the scan), and the PET scan for the following Wednesday. Hopefully, by then, we will know a lot more about how this cancer is progressing.
